Are your deck boards soft, moldy or rotting underneath? Get a free estimate.
The boards on this Jenkintown deck were rotting from underneath, so instead of patching it we rebuilt it from the footings up.
What we did
- Tore out the old decking, railings and framing down to the footings.
- Built new pressure-treated framing with joists and blocking across the full footprint.
- Laid new deck boards and rebuilt the steps and walkway.
- Stained the deck, steps and railing red-brown, including the raised section on posts.
Repair or replace?
Surface wear on deck boards can often be sanded and resealed, but rot that starts on the underside, where boards sit on the joists and stay damp, means water has been trapped for years. At that point new boards on old framing only hide the problem. Taking the deck down to the footings shows what is still sound, and new framing gives the new boards a solid, level base that will last as long as they do.
